Painting, painting, painting.

Apply, smear, drag, change, express, dry, look, feel, change, reconstruct, squint, smudge, smell, breathe, coffee, smoothie, break, stretch, rest, recharge and go on.

My painting process is simple yet complicated, a play, but also a passion, searching for a balance, colors and composition, expressing myself, impressing myself, criticising, building up and tearing down. Shuffling canvases or taking the journey with one from beginning to end result. Frames and hanging, curating, narrating.

I love the smell of colors, the painting medium, a well stretched canvas, I love the way my brushes and palette rests in my hand. The way my chair turns around on my demand, the way the easel can drop down or rise up to my wanted eye level.

I`ve painted in small studios, big studios, poor lighting, natural lighting, Ultraviolet, great view, no view, tropical monsoon times or AC on. In the garden or on a rooftop, in a hotel room or in an old Portuguese house, school studio or office space. And to travel/move with oil paint can be demanding, but the setup is pretty much like the sentence over.

A easy energy recharge is grapes, history knows, depicted in painters lush still lifes, ready to wake you up in a new perspective. I used to smoke cigarettes, sometimes still do, its very de-stressing and gives room for poetic contemplation. Coffee is warm and cosy, making mellow and sharp. Im vegan now and love to learn more about this lifestyle.

The music or local sounds. A psy party somewhere in the neighbourhood, construction workers, real and live, classical piano, chillout, gotan project or the newest pop tunes, radio rumble, sometimes even netflix. As evolving, new era, preferences and discoveries.

Time, timeless, time bending, deadline, no line, in a rush, or just focused here and now. The painting will have a life on its own. But im seeing most focus is in consistency, thats a way to evolve and gain results as well.

I realised I was thinking of a way to make an art installation of my used brushes, Iike, how about gluing them together and making a hand fan, or could I build a relief piece with it? they are very beautiful...but it didnt feel like the solution, cos I just wanted to paint with them... so I approached a more sustainable and practical option... creating the RushBrushSet out of a in-studio necessity. With some talented designers, we collaborate to make it, and now its is available in shop and e-commerce.

I like to think of it like a extention to the easel, a little interior feel to it, its kind of rational, minimal and maximal at the same time.
